Do you need an app for a photo QR code
To send photos with a QR code, guests do not need an app. The phone camera and the browser are enough.

No. For a photo QR at a party, guests do not install an app. They open the camera already on the phone, they aim at the square, they tap the link, and the page opens in the browser.
That is the shortest path. Each added step (a store, an account, permissions) leaves people on the side.
Why photo apps lose people
A QR code photo sharing app often promises a tidy album and notifications. In the room, the cost is concrete.
- Find the right app in the store.
- Wait for the download, sometimes on a crowded network.
- Create an account or accept an invite.
- Allow photo access, sometimes broader than the moment needs.
At a table of eight, two people finish. The others put the phone away. A QR that opens a page skips those steps. The file is chosen in the phone's picker, photos and videos included. The name stays optional.
Komos is built that way for guests. The host has an account, because the host creates the event, pays to unlock it, and gets the files back. Guests never see that screen.
iPhone and Android, same page
On iPhone, the Camera app recognizes the QR and offers the link. On most recent Android phones, the camera does it too. If it does not, the scan tool already on the phone (often Lens, or the camera with a setting to turn on) is enough. Not an app downloaded from an ad.
The page is the same. You do not maintain two sets of instructions.
Still test both phone families before you print. A setting on one model is fixed the day before, not during the speech.
When a dedicated device makes sense
A kiosk or a photo booth is one device, run by an operator or left in a corner. Software installed on that machine can have a job there. That is not the same request as "every guest sends from their own phone".
If you already have a booth, its QR is often how someone gets the session just taken. The room's QR collects the rest of the camera rolls. The two can sit side by side. They do not stand in for each other.
What not to do
- Write "download the app" on the sign.
- Send guests to a store in the middle of the meal.
- Require a guest account "so it stays tidy".
- Assume everyone has the same phone you do.
In summary
A photo sharing app with a QR adds steps the room will not take. The QR code and the web page are enough: scan with the camera, upload in the browser, gallery in one place.
The scan is in how to scan a photo QR code. The page behind the square is in a QR code for photos.
Create an event to see the path with no app, or see pricing: 85 CAD, once.
