Scanning the photo QR during a wedding
At a wedding, scanning the photo QR happens at the table or the cocktail hour, not during the vows. How to help a guest without taking their phone.

Scanning the photo QR at a wedding is a guest gesture, not a ceremony moment. The card is on the table. The phone camera reads the square. The page opens. The photo leaves from the camera roll.
The couple wants that gesture to be obvious. They do not need the whole room holding phones up during the vows. The link as a whole, from the tables to the next day, is the QR code for wedding photos.
The right moment
During the processional and the vows, a scan adds little and blocks the view. Photos of that part belong to the photographer, or to people standing where they do not block the aisle.
The cocktail hour and the meal work better. Guests are seated or at the bar. Phones come out for other reasons. One sentence on the mic, then, is enough: "The QR on the table opens our gallery. Scan it to add your photos. Nothing to install."
If nobody says it, the cards stay decoration.
Help without taking the phone
A guest who is comfortable can show the gesture on their own device, then let others do the same. Taking someone's phone "to go faster" makes people uneasy, especially once the camera roll opens.
If they hand it to you themselves:
- Open the camera, not a random app.
- Aim at the card, tap the link.
- Hand the phone back so they pick the photo.
- The upload finishes on their screen. You do not stay inside their photos.
A whole table does not need a manual. One person who succeeds, and shows the page, often unsticks the neighbours.
When the square will not read
- Add light, or move the card under a light already in the room. A single candle is not always enough.
- Hold the phone far enough for the QR to be sharp.
- Tilt a glossy card if there is glare.
- If the QR exists only on someone's phone, raise that screen's brightness. Better: keep paper cards. They scan more reliably than a shiny screen.
The couple may have printed a wedding sign for the photo QR at the entrance and smaller cards on the tables. Both carry the same address. If one fails, the other still works.
After the meal
A lot of guests tell themselves they will send "when they get home". Some of them only do it if the link arrives by text the next day. A blurry photo of the card, dropped in a group, works less well than the address itself. Why the thread does not replace that link: how to skip the WhatsApp group for wedding photos.
If you are the host, prepare that message before the day. Komos emails you the next day as a reminder. Files already sent are in the gallery. The ZIP of the originals, after unlocking at 85 CAD, gives them back to you without going through each guest again.
What not to do
- Call for a general scan during the vows.
- Install a scanner app "for guests who cannot manage". The camera is enough.
- Leave a single tiny QR at the back of a program nobody opens again.
- Change the link on the day. Cards already on the tables will not follow.
In summary
At a wedding, people scan the photo QR at the table, with the camera, and each person sends from their own phone. One sentence at the meal, light on the card, and the same link the next day.
Unlocking the event is on pricing.
